Tapping the Bowel

Apropos of the question of the advisability of puncturing the inflated intestine in obstruction or strangulation, which was raised at a recent meeting of the Calcutta Medical Society. The following notes of a case in which the procedure was completely successful may be of interest. The tapping was not limited to the tumour, it was a case of Strangulated Hernia, but the bowel above was boldly punctured through the abdominal wall as well. Gour Hari Kahut, Hindoo, aged 40, admitted to the Midnapore Dispensary on the morning of the 5th of .November 1881 with a large Inguino-scrotal rupture of 3 years' standing irreducible for G days. The tumour was painful and tender, but only moderately tense.
